Travelwise will guide you anywhere in the region of
southern Provence. That region stretches from Marseille to
Cannes/Nice and upwards from western Arles to eastern Grasse.
The half-day trips are limited to the south-Var, including
Saint-Tropez, the peninsula of Saint-Tropez, with its charming
perched villages of Ramatuelle and Gassin and the jet-set beach of
Pampelonne, as well as the villages of Grimaud or La
Garde-Freinet.
The two following suggestions are just examples of what a one-day
trip might encompass. But everything can be tailor made. Are you
fond of markets? They will be included. Interested in historical
monuments? We'll make sure that you will not be disappointed.

A suggestion for a full-day trip is a drive along the
spectacular Gorges-du-Verdon in between the Var and
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence with frequent stops for views, walks and
photo opportunities ending at the huge man-made lake of Ste Croix.
From there a visit to Moustiers-Ste-Marie (famous for its
earthenware) is an option and/or a drive back by way of Tourtour, a
charming Provençal village where the natural sources provide enough
water to fill the communal wash basins, still actively used. |
An equally memorable day would follow the route
through the rough and uninhabited Massif des Maures to Collobrières
(the chestnut capital of the world) with perhaps a sidetrack to the
Chartreuse de la Verne, a medieval monastery so isolated that one
wonders how they could have subsisted, apart from the abundant chestnuts.
From the village the route would lead over the Col de Babaou, with
spectacular views of the Mediterranean sea, a perfect spot for a picnic.
Afterwards a descent to Bormes-les-Mimosas, a welcoming town full of
flowers in any season. From there the route would lead along the
Corniche des Maures, the coastal route with hidden creeks and small
beaches.
